i can’t remember a time where i really lost my voice…. well, up until now. i’ve got all the symptoms for a very bad cold/cough/mild illness/whatever. sore throat, achy body, chest pains, coughing, and to top it off, i sound like a croaking frog when i open my mouth. on any normal day i would probably find this annoying, but today i am finding it especially challenging.

we are called to worship and praise the Lord and bring glory to his name. and now i’m stuck here in silence. all i want to do is praise the name of Jesus, and i feel as if i cannot. so as i was reading Jesus Calling this morning i came across this verse in 1 thessalonians 5:18-

“give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

how about that for a little smack in the face. as i’m sitting here saying “oh i can’t worship or spread the name of Jesus without my voice” He is saying: “stop you’re complaining; i made you silent right now for a reason. give thanks for that unto me.” and you know what, he is exactly right. silence allows the mind to sift through restless thoughts; it allows for prayers to surface; it allows for listening.

the next time you’re feel as if you’re in a rut or that whatever circumstance you’re in is terrible, remember to give thanks to God in all things because it is God’s will whatever that circumstance may be. sometimes it’s through the hard/frustrating circumstances where we see Jesus show up the most.
